This time-tested practice invites you to complement a spirit’s original taste to express enhanced flavor. The Oak Bottle Barrel Finishing Kit was designed to help you introduce a touch more personality into the spirits of your choice to “finish” them. This is your chance to become an expert—to create a bespoke experience of new aroma, color and flavor. After carefully sampling you will have your signature finished spirit—if you’ve chosen wisely, you will have created a taste like no other.
What Should You Try First?
So maybe you have carefully selected a spirit you could enjoy as-is but deserves a bit more time in oak, or maybe you chose a new or young make option in which to create your own original expression, in either case you know that elevating the essence of an artfully crafted spirit with a unique barrel finish is the way to put a personalized spin on a product. Using the Oak Bottle to craft a signature finish of your own on an already proven spirit will not only produce for you a one-of-a-kind batch that only you know how to recreate, you will further discover what your taste preferences are as you experiment along the way. As you step into the big shoes of the master distiller, master blender, and barrel master, be sure to carefully document your finishing notes and process using the bottle neck labels in the included exploration guide inside this kit. Not only will you create a truly unique expression to share but you will also be building a personal repertoire of information that will assist you in future spirit-finishing experiments.
How To Use This Kit
Step 1: Select A Spirit or Wine
Choose the spirit you want to experiment with and use the color index on the static cling stickers in the exploration guide to determine its current barrel age. This information is essential for the next step. If you already know the current age of the spirit or wine, you can skip to Step 2.
Step 2: Pour Into the Oak Bottle and Wait
You can either invite a pre-conditioner into the Oak Bottle or directly pour your spirit of choice into the cask. Refer to the aging time suggestions on the color index static cling stickers in the guide, or let your taste buds guide you (or use our app for more precise aging time calculations and reminders). Remember to taste frequently, and soon you’ll have a completely new flavor.
Step 3: Bottle Your Finished Batch
When you’ve achieved your desired taste, pour your finished batch back into the included glass vessel and label your signature bottle with your finishing recipe details using the neck flag labels inside the guide booklet.
Step 4: Gift or Savor Your Creation
Has your signature barrel finished experience come to an end? Or maybe not! Put your bottled batch back in its original box, sign the back, and offer it as a gift to a lucky friend. Alternatively, enjoy what you have created and continue your exploration with a new experiment!

The Oak Bottle’s tight grain prevents leakage while allowing for micro-oxygenation, which is essential for aging. The slender design ensures that the liquid comes into contact with the inner walls of the bottle, facilitating a rapid transformation process. This design allows for quick experimentation with barrel finishing at home by reducing timing variables, resulting in a superb taste that can be enjoyed almost instantly.
